We’re gonna do some experimenting with a carrying method I really do not like. H&K P30L, Kore Essentials Belt, gunfighters Inc double mag pouch, and Ronin holster nitecore EDC27 (it has strobe features!)
I am sure you guys know, I am always pushing appendix carry, specifically with the Phlstr Enigma harness system for maximum concealment. This isn’t my own idea, and I know I’m not the only one that thinks this way, but a gun that people can see is a gun that people can take from you. Even with a grappling background like I have, you never want to lose control of your tools, minimizing that risk through concealment is essential. But it’s getting to be Big Coat weather, which means it’s Open Carry a Full Size weather!

I have a few different belts, but I am really liking the Kore Belt lately because of its modularity. If I want leather belt, I have it pre trimmed and ready to install with a few turns of the hex key. This was Grey, but it looks more silver. I have a leather strap on a fancier looking buckle for more dress appropriate wear. It’s rigid but in the past I’ve found that wearing it with an appendix carry tends to do a number on my low back. I expect a similar issue with 3 o’clock, but I am open to being surprised.
I plan on using this kit mostly as a Church set up, seeing that is a thing my family is exploring and I wont be caught Lacking. But also, as an experimentation and training method for open carry without using by LARP belt. This is a method of carry that I halted almost immediately because I open carried in a T-Mobile Store and they flat out refused to do business with me, gay and retarded I know but that’s their right (sell me the cellphone bigot).

My Expectations and Biases:
- I will hate it because it’s going to be changing my extensively practiced draw stroke. Building new pathways to accommodate for a new method of carry is going to have a bit of a learning curve.
- I believe reloading with the Paddle on the P30 is going to be hard at first too, but the fast and stable access to my magazines with the pouches will be better over the pocket carry methods I’m currently working.
- Not running a light is a little foreign to me, so I will also be utilizing a pocket flashlight to compensate for that, one with optional settings and a strobe feature, I prefer WML’s but sometimes you simply need a flashlight and not a Light with a gun attached.
- I expect to entertain new garment fights due to the change in position of where the firearm is kept as well as the potential for new reloading flubs.
- I expect that my return to Irons will be easy. I cowitness and train optic failures as is, what I don’t like is that my P30 does not have tritium capsules in the rear sight post. I ordered a used set today that will get put on promptly.
- The P30 has a notoriously bad trigger. Personally I don’t mind the double action, but the single action has way more uptake than the CZ75 and 92FS. The reset after first shot is also atrocious. I might look into the reset mod and flat trigger from Grayguns. I don’t like them because they are Sig propagandists but I can’t deny they make good products.
- Owb carry of a full size will be different than a compact in Appendix especially when driving, maybe I map pocket it while driving, maybe center console. Maybe I slide the holster to a different location. While driving around with it yesterday, I got really annoyed but I expect that I’ll have to get over that.
Current metrics
Enigma draw to first shot: 0.78s
GFI OWB draw to first shot: 1.68s
I’ll map out shot reload shot at some point. I need to find my MantisX for this. I will also be pressure testing this through regular competition at my local gun range.
